last night I mashed up half a brownish banana and a tsp. of raw honey. if it were more brown i think it would've been better b/c the hard bits of banana were prone to slipping and falling off my face. did seem to moisturize a bit.
I have a clear idea of what I need in a trailer, but haven't found where I can buy it yet. I want the between the wheels utility bed style but I want the sides to extend out to 8'6" everywhere except the wheels. Why is that so hard to find! Here's one blog with suggestions for finding trailers, I feel like this is what I need to focus on. I'll be driving from San Diego to Maine so if I'm gonna have to drive to pick up a trailer, makes sense I should do it on my drive out. Don't ask how I'm gonna tow a newly bought trailer with a prius. first things first.
this is something I've been wondering about lately so I'm glad I came across this blog today. A few highlights: :: diesel engines commonly last 250,000 - 350,000 miles (and heavy trucks even longer) AND have better fuel economy! did not know that. :: a high gear ratio gives more towing power than a low numerical ratio :: Ford recommends For fifth wheel trailers, tongue load should be 25 percent of trailer weight. I'm guessing tiny houses would fall into this category. :: tow capacity. seems like a tiny house would fall into one of the following 2 categories, and I think I will err on the side of caution and assume my 22'-24' tiny house will be over 10,000 pounds so I will need a super heavy duty tow vehicle.
source: looks like most of that info came from Woodalls.
I am so relieved to report that the local Codes Enforcement Officer confirmed that since this will be towable/mobile there will be no guidelines for building this tiny house other than requiring a wastewater management plan. that is such a relief! HOWEVER, the bad news is they consider all used water to be wastewater, even if it's just greywater from shower. He said wastewater of any type will have to go into a honey wagon and be disposed of at a proper site for a fee. I'm really not sure how to handle this b/c I can easily blow through 50 gallons of water in one shower. I don't want to deal with wastewater disposal every few days or really even every week! maybe once a month if absolutely necessary. So this is something I'm going to need to research more. and holding tanks are expensive and still so small! there is a town ordinance against disposing water on site so if I can design/install a greywater treatment system and reuse my own water, that sounds like my best bet at this point. Any suggestions (other than take shorter showers) will be appreciated! I can't tie into the septic system on the land, unfortunately--another town rule.
so the next question is what do i do about my dying iphone 4s. i've been planning to buy a iphone 5c and get virgin mobile service but their coverage area shows no coverage for like 10-20 minutes from my home. when i was there last summer i think i got coverage with sprint closer than that, and i thought they were the same network. but if coverage is that bad, it's not really worth it to have a nice cell phone. i plan to be at home a lot so then the cell phone would only be used very occasionally. so maybe i buy a crappy cell phone for the occasional important not-at-home call... but then I do want to use apps like audible. facebook i can check on my computer. but it would be nice to listen to audible books without firing up computer. what I really want is to listen to music and audiobooks, so i guess a regular mp3 player would work for that? that seems to make a lot more financial sense than spending $440 on a new iphone 5c when really i just wanna listen to stuff. and i like that it would be small. wow. this thing is $30! seems like it has everything I would need. 4gb is pretty small but I could add 16gb micro SDHC card. ew, reviews look bad. need one that works well. Mach Speed - Eclipse 180G2 Series 4GB* Video MP3 Player - Red Samsung Galaxy Reverb for $50 seems like my best bet. And it has up to 64GB storage so maybe I don't need an mp3 player afterall. wish i could see/feel it in person before ordering, but i think virgin mobile has a money back guarantee.
yikes, reviews on this look bad too! that's it for me today. i just did a search for phone alternatives to vonage (b/c I HATE HATE HATE them from an awful time trying to cancel like 10 years ago--still bitter about it). I referred to a chart and it seemed like the best option was ooma. never heard of it but it seems perfect for my Maine location which receives ZERO cell phone coverage by any network. The device is $150 but the free monthly service will be fine for me. it's actually just under $4/month for taxes etc. I would probably buy a cordless phone with 2 handsets and put the 2nd handset up in the loft. the primary handset and ooma box thing would be on my Ikea expedit shelves next to wireless router--in my office section. maybe even put into a knipsa basket to hide away that clutter.
I need to try this: add turmeric to your morning moisturizer for a "glow"
http://www.minimalistbeauty.com/minimalist-beauty-tip-7-turmeric-for-a-daily-glow/ this seems like the best insulation for me (natural=good air quality), just need to make sure it will be insulating enough for cold maine winters! here's a few websites I've found. one of them says Maine code calls for minimum R20 in the walls, and I think that 2x6 walls would limit me to 5-5.5 inches of insulation which apparently would only be R16 to R21 ish. need to do more research.

I like that look but wonder if they might not do so well when out on the open road...
